Jun 29, 2015 Granulation tissue is comprised of new connective tissue and tiny blood vessels that form on the surfaces of a wound during the healing process.

Granulation Tissue Granulation tissue is a common cause of postsurgical vaginal bleeding and frequently is biopsied, particularly if there are concerns stemming from a prior surgical procedure for a neoplasm. Typically, granulation tissue appears as a raised red, lobular lesion in the upper vagina, near or within the sutured cuff. This temporary, highly vascularized pink tissue is called granulation tissue. The body then summons cells called myofibroblasts that contract the wound (sort of like a muscle contracts) to protect the new delicate tissue as it is reinforced. From the outside-in, the granulation tissue will undergo a process called epithelialization. This is when the skin cells regrow across the length of the wound tissue. Sometimes during healing, granulation can occur.
